Peroulades & Longas Beaches
There is very little to see in the tiny village of Peroulades, barely 1km north of Avliotes, other than a collection of old stone houses, the occasional more modern residence and the odd chicken or goat wandering about. Even the sole kafenio doesn't bother to open half of the time. The main reason to come here is for the wonderful Longas beach, around 500m to the west. Note that if you are coming from
Sidari, you can go directly to Peroulades by turning right instead of left to Avliotes at the junction just over 2km west of Sidari.
Longas beach is mostly visited by vacationing Greeks with their own vehicles, which means, although it can get very crowded in high season, it's otherwise blissfully quiet. The fine sandy strand is narrow in parts but is also over a kilometre long, backed by towering reddish cliffs, which keep it shaded for most of the morning. This impressive backdrop and the lack of facilities make it one of the most naturally attractive spots to swim on
corfu island. The beach is divided in two by an abrupt mountainous spur, down which steps descend from the end of the road.
At the top, a selection of standard meals is available at the vast Panorama restaurant, which also has a hexagonal outdoor bar pumping out trendy sounds. One hundred metres back from the cliffs, the Sunset taverna provides tasty meat and fish dishes at slightly lower prices. A further 100m or so back, you can stay at the modern, pinkish Logas Beach Studios, though you'll be limited to the places mentioned above for food without your own wheel.
