welcome to Corfu island (Kerkyra) Greece
Corfu is one of the most popular and beautiful Greek islands of Greece. With a wealth of natural beauty, a rich culture that spans centuries and a gentle magnetic appeal it is easy to see what draws people back year after year.
Corfu island's diverse coastline offers beaches that range from glorious sweeps of golden sand and bustling seaside resorts to enchanting white-pebbled coves. Inland the scenery is spectacular, and there is an abundance of charming traditional villages where you still encounter donkeys, occasional traditional costume and of course the gloriously lazy pace of life Greece is so famous for. Corfu island has an immensely long and chequered history. Renowned as a place of beauty, culture and hospitality since ancient times, Corfu plays her part in many ancient myths and legends. |
Ancient Greek, Roman, Byzantine and Venetian powers have all held fort on Corfu's shores and although excavations are relatively few there are many traces of these great powers to be found around the island and in the excellent archaeology museum. The capital of the island Corfu town is a joy. Dominated by two impressive Venetian fortresses, graced with the inspired architecture of several different cultures and surrounded by the azure Ionian Sea the old town is a delight to explore. A maze of elegant narrow streets lead the curious onto hidden little platias arcaded avenues and Byzantine churches. A stroll through the park brings you to the sophisticated arcades and cafes of the 'Liston', the perfect place to sit in the shade and indulge in a good coffee or ouzo meze. |

Shopping is excellent and provides for all tastes. From chic little boutiques and hand crafted jewellery, leather, or art studios to cheap and cheerful souvenir shops, Corfu island has it all.
Although a relatively small island Corfu has her fair share of sports for all the family. Water sports abound with jetties on all major beaches and plenty of opportunities to take to the water by boat. There is an 18 hole golf course, cycling, tennis, horse riding and gym clubs plus two large water parks and much more. Likewise for evening entertainment and eating out, whether your mood is traditional and quiet or modern and loud, there is something to suit everyone |

Corfu Beaches
One of the delights of being on a small island is the variety and close proximity of its beaches. Corfu has a remarkable range of lovely beaches to offer from long sweeps of golden sand to tiny pebbled bays and coves. What they all have in common is crystal clear water and little or no tide. The East Coast of corfu island has predominantly pebbly or shingly beaches. There are some wonderful little hidden inlets for those that explore (particularly by boat) and other long tree lined sweeps of white pebbles with water-sports, sun-loungers and the ever enticing turquoise sea perfect for swimming & snorkeling. The far North and West coasts offer a complete contrast with long strips and bays of golden sand. Some of these beaches get very busy in the Summer months with their inviting shallow waters and water sports facilities some (for the more adventurous) remain almost deserted even in the height of Summer. Whether you prefer being utterly lazy and just soaking up the rays with your sun lounger, umbrella and cool cocktail or are more inclined to be active and adventurous, Corfu beaches offer something for all.
