Corfu to Athens: How to Do it

Corfu, part of the Ionian Islands, is a favorite destination for travelers to Greece. Summer is the busiest time due to the beautiful beaches and good weather. Explore the narrow streets of the Old city or take a walk on the seaside promenade. Those planning Corfu holidays can easily get from Athens to Corfu. You can take a flight, a bus, a ferry, a boat, or sail there in your own boat. There is regular service between the mainland of Greece and Corfu with more frequent departures during the summer season. Airlines offer daily flights to Corfu and they take less than an hour. Olympic airlines offers three daily flights; morning, evening, and late night.

You can take a long distance bus from Athens to Corfu. Buses leave four times daily in the summer. The bus trip is 7 hours and the buses only make the trip from June to September. The Athens KTEL bus terminal is the departure point and the bus takes you to Igoumenitsa just across the harbour from Corfu. You then take a ferry from there to the island

You can also drive to Corfu. Some car rental agencies in Athens will even take you out of the chaotic city traffic and let you go from there. From Athens follow the signs to Igoumenitsa. This is the port where you can take a ferry over
to the Corfu. The journey takes about 5 hours. One relaxing way to go begin Corfu holidays is to take a boat from Athens to the Corfu harbor. In a smaller boat the trip is about 1 hours. In a large covered ferry the trip is only an hour.

Ferries depart from the port of Igoumenitsa for Corfu every 15 minutes during the summer season. If you plan to take the ferry and just need a deck seat then you don't need a reservation. If you have a car to take on the ferry, then you will want to make a reservation before leaving Athens. For a splurge, hire a car and driver to take you to Corfu. If you get the right driver it can be a scenic and entertaining drive with no tickets, wrestling with luggage or standing in line

If you are sailing into Corfu on your own boat then there is a marina just north of the town or you can find a berth in
the Old Port. Greece holidays are not usually known for being adventurous but the trip from Athens to Corfu certainly is
